Kubernetes Pod Monitors & Re-Labeling

Kubernetes Pod Monitors & Re-Labeling

The Prometheus operator offers a simple method to scrape metrics from any Pod. However in many cases the Pod itself is not what you are monitoring but the Pod is used to expose metrics that relate to the Node. In such cases what the user cares about is the Node on which the Pod runs and not the Pod itself.

By default when using PodMonitor all the time series data will have the instance set to the Pod's name. Also the Pod or the Daemon set that the Pod was part of may be deleted, redeployed multiple times over the lifetime of the node. This means that the user will need to perform the mapping between the Pod and the Node on which it run.

However Prometheus allows the instance name (among other labels) to be relabeled in a very simple manner as shown below.

True Color (24-bit) and italics with alacritty + tmux + vim (neovim)

True Color (24-bit) and italics with alacritty + tmux + vim (neovim)

This should make True Color (24-bit) and italics work in your tmux session and vim/neovim when using Alacritty (and should be compatible with any other terminal emulator, including Kitty).

Testing colors

Running this script should look the same in tmux as without.

QEMU and HVF
# Summary
A few notes I took to see if I could use MacOS as Hypevirsor in a similar fashion to Linux
I wanted to see how few addons were needed instead of using Parallels, Virtual Box, VM Fsion etc.
The idea is to use QEMU, Hypervisor Framework (https://developer.apple.com/documentation/hypervisor) and some custom host networking.
# Installations
brew install qemu (For controlling Hypervisor Framework)
brew install cdrtools (For making cloud init iso's)
http://tuntaposx.sourceforge.net/download.xhtml (For customer tap based networking)

Technical guide for using YubiKey series 4 for GPG and SSH

YubiKey 4 series GPG and SSH setup guide

Written for fairly adept technical users, preferably of Debian GNU/Linux, not for absolute beginners.

You'll probably be working with a single smartcard, so you'll want only one primary key (1. Sign & Certify) and two associated subkeys (2. Encrypt, 3. Authenticate). I've published a Bash function which automates this slightly special key generation process.

Managing plugins in Vim

Managing plugins in Vim: The basics

Let's say the plugin is at a GitHub URL https://github.com/manasthakur/foo. First get the plugin by either cloning it (git clone https://github.com/manasthakur.foo.git) or simply downloading it as a zip (from its GitHub page).

Adding a plugin in Vim is equivalent to adding the plugin's code properly into its runtimepath (includes the $HOME/.vim directory by default). For example, if the layout of a plugin foo is as follows:

foo/autoload/foo.vim
foo/plugin/foo.vim
