Solving a Dungeons & Dragons riddle using prolog

Solving a Dungeons & Dragons riddle using prolog

Bringing back the magic of Christmas using the magic of prolog

As part of a holiday D&D one-shot session where Santa Claus's toy factory had been sabotaged, our dungeon master presented to us, a group of Christmas elves, a riddle to solve.

9 cards, labeled with the names of Santa's reindeer were presented to us. The instructions indicated that we had to find the order reindeer were in, according to this riddle:

Vixen should be behind Rudolph, Prancer and Dasher, whilst Vixen should be in front of Dancer and Comet. Dancer should be behind Donder, Blitzen and Rudolph. Comet should be behind Cupid, Prancer and Rudolph. Donder should be behind Comet, Vixen, Dasher, Prancer and Cupid. Cupid should be in front of Comet, Blitzen, Vixen, Dancer and Rudolph. Prancer should be in front of Blitzen, Donder and Cupid. Blitzen should be behind Cupid but in front of Dancer, Vixen and Donder. Rudolph should be behind Prancer but in front of Dasher, Dancer and Dond

Safari's date-picker is the cause of 1/3 of our customer support issues

Safari's date-picker is the cause of 1/3 of our customer support issues

...and obviously we're building a workaround. But I'm absolutely flabbergasted that a standard <input type="date"> HTML field, in a standard browser, from a company that bases its reputation good design, could be so dreadful.

The context

I'm the developer for a startup that sells a genetic test to recommend medications for high blood pressure. For medical reasons we need to know our customers' birth date. Most of our customers are in their 60s or older. We've found that many of them use iPads or iPhones. And they're the ones who complain to our customer support that our site is unusable.

The problem

Why not: from Common Lisp to Julia

This article is a response to mfiano’s From Common Lisp to Julia which might also convey some developments happening in Common Lisp. I do not intend to suggest that someone coming from a Matlab, R, or Python background should pickup Common Lisp. Julia is a reasonably good language when compared to what it intends to replace. You should pickup Common Lisp only if you are interested in programming in general, not limited to scientific computing, and envision yourself writing code for the rest of your life. It will expand your mind to what is possible, and that goes beyond the macro system. Along the same lines though, you should also pickup C, Haskell, Forth, and perhaps a few other languages that have some noteworthy things to teach, and that I too have been to lazy to learn.

/I also do not intend to offend anyone. I’m okay with criticizing Common Lisp (I myself have done it below!), but I want t

hicetnunc IPFS pinning

Hicetnunc.xyz IPFS Pinning

💡 These steps will become easier, less technical, and more accessible as more open tools begin to emerge around Hicetnunc pinning. The steps below assume macOS but should work similarly across other platforms. This gist can be seen as a working draft toward more polished documentation; if you see any issues please post a comment below.

Basic Idea

Hicetnunc.xyz aims to be "decentralized" which means the OBJKTs are owned by the users, not the platform. So, in theory, if hicetnunc disappears, another marketplace could emerge on the same (user-owned) assets. But, this paradigm of decentralization means that you own the assets; so the responsibility to maintain them lies on the users, not the platform.

Of course, hicetnunc and some of its users will probably also make an effort to help maintain all the assets on its platform; but you should not rely purely on that, as it goes against the core ethos of dec

A curated collection of answers that Rich gave throughout the history of Clojure

Rich Already Answered That!

A list of commonly asked questions, design decisions, reasons why Clojure is the way it is as they were answered directly by Rich (even when from many years ago, those answers are pretty much valid today!). Feel free to point friends and colleagues here next time they ask (again). Answers are pasted verbatim (I've made small adjustments for readibility, but never changed a sentence) from mailing lists, articles, chats.
