Running Backtrack from a USB thumb drive on a MacBook Air

Download Backtrack Linux. I used BT5R3-GNOME-64.iso.
Format the thumb drive with Disk Utility (FAT, MBR).
Use UNetbootin to copy the image to the thumb drive.
Use fdisk to mark the partition as active:

Run diskutil list to check the device path for the thumb drive. On my system, it was /dev/disk2.

Problem: When linking to the raw version of a gist, the link changes with each revision.

Solution:

To return the first file from a gist: https://gist.github.com/[gist_user]/[gist_id]/raw/

Example: https://gist.github.com/atenni/5604522/raw/
Works even when you change the filename.

To get a file from multi–file gist: https://gist.github.com/[gist_user]/[gist_id]/raw/[file_name]

Each of these commands will run an ad hoc http static server in your current (or specified) directory, available at http://localhost:8000. Use this power wisely.

Server Configuration in git

With git you can have anything versioned. You're used to version your code, which is a bunch of files. Your server configuration (on Linux) is also just a bunch of files, so it can be versioned as well.

The idea is simple: create a git repository in /etc/ and commit everytime you change any configuration of your server. Written in code:
