Running Windows 10/11 Guest with GPU Passthrough using laptop running Fedora

Abstract

This is a full guide for people who wanted to set up Windows 10/11 VM with QEMU/KVM hypervisor enhancements for a laptop that is configured with hybrid graphics card like Intel/AMD + NVIDIA. This process will take about 1 to 2 hours, depending on your system's performance and your patience =)

There is another comprehensive guide you can follow here (shoutout to asus-linux team who made supergfxctl which is a very important tool for this guide). It is more up-to-date than mine. I would probably incorporate those information into my guide, but you are welcome to use this one as a reference!

Before we proceed:

This guide is exclusively for Fedora users because this distro is quite different to set up than other distro such as Arch. I would say Arch is easier to setup than Fedora, but sometimes you like to use Fedora than Arc

Supported Features

Lenovo laptop series using the ideapad_laptop driver have a feature called 'battery conservation mode', basically a fixed stop charge threshold at 60%. The hardware behaviour is:

All packages, except for Tini have been added to termux-root. To install them, simply pkg install root-repo && pkg install docker. This will install the whole docker suite, left only Tini to be compiled manually.

Unfortunately the original article is not up-to-date and doesn't have the option to leave comments so I can't communicate with the author for updates so I decided to write the updates in a Gist. Introduction

I often find myself ssh'ing into my servers and checking my systemd service logs with $ journalctl -f -u {name}.service. One day I got tired of this and wanted all of my important logs in once place (Amazon AWS Cloudwatch). To my dismay, there weren't any real good tutorials on how to do so. So, voilà.

Steps

Overall, it's a fairly simple process consisting of the following few steps.

1. Modify the service file

Open the service file with $ sudo vi /lib/systemd/system/{name}.service

The long story

We were talking at the office about having a LAN Party and playing some old school games like Age of Empires and Starcraft. The issue is that I have Linux installed. I didn't want to ruin everyone else's fun by having random crashes, out-of-sync errors and similar stuff using Wine, and I didn't want to do the dual boot dance, so I figured out that the best option was to install Windows to an external drive.


	How to install Windows 10 to an external drive has be answered may times here at Ask Different. Most notably Is it possible to use Boot Camp with Windows 10 from an external HDD?. Enough subtle changes have been made to macOS and Windows 10, that I felt the answer should be reposted. Here, I try to incorporate the best ideas in all the other answers I have read. This answer does not require a virtual machine, optical (DVD) drive or any flash drives.
	Note: When this answer was tested on a 2018 Mac mini with the T2 chip, Secure Boot and External Boot was set, as shown below. For instruction on how to configure a Mac with the T2 chip, see the Apple website About Secure Boot.

	1 Download the latest Windows 10 ISO file from the Microsoft website Download Windows 10 Disc Image (ISO File). Currently this would be 1909 (September 2019) update.
