What I did today?

  • I reported to work. Did the work and logged out before 5PM. Yesterday was stressful for me, good thing today was a little bit lighter. Although I did not escape without an additional bug to my name but it is simple to fix.

  • Dude did not report to work today because she's not feeling well. I advised her to take the day off and do something she likes so that she'll forget about the stuff at her work. She made us labour of love muffins. I particularly like the dates and walnuts one.

  • Tonight the whole family went out for a walk -- apparently it's the last Tuesday of summer today.

  • I also paid some bills. I paid the credit card bill in full. It's the first time I reviewed my transactions and found out that I was charged by Amazon close to $40.00 in one day. After doing some investigation, I saw that there were some rogue downloads that went through on one day. Multiple $3.99 downloads from the app store. Turns out, it was my youngest who made the downloads. Her account is now blocked

Autumn

Yesterday was the start of autumn here in Australia. It was sweltering. It will be again today. Despite the heat, I am sleeping here in our bedroom without A/C while everybody sleeps down stairs where the only A/C in house is. It's the end of my favourite season and it'll start to get cold again.

I brought my work computer this weekend. I usually do but I always end up not touching it during the weekends, so what's the point? It's a bit of a workout when I'm lugging the thing to and from work while using public transport. I think the idea is to spend a little bit of time reading code and being more efficient at work. But I never do. This weekend it'll be different. I'll open it up -- I won't bother connecting to the internet. I will just read code. In doing so, I hope to get a little bit better and pick up a few gems in there so I'd be more efficient at work.

It's start of the weekend once again. Two days of time that's dedicated for personal use. I usually don't plan to use it wisely and the week

I'm just testing if I could embed a tweet here.

Looks like it's possible but it's not nicely formatted as you would see it in a more sophisticated blogging platform like Medium.

March goals

This time I'm keeping it short so I could focus on them.

For my kids:

  • I'm continuing their tutorial lessons every night. I'll focus on maths and writing. It's important to know the times table in maths. I'll be buying more resources to teach them how to do maths easily. I would love to teach them the shortcuts in math so that they'll be better and grow confident when dealing with numbers. Still doing this.

For my wife:

New stuff

  • Today I did at least two new stuff that's out of the ordinary. Instead of buying something, I sold something. Well, I posted my watch for sale. I love watches but I think I need money now more than watches. So, I'm getting rid of watches that doesn't spark joy for me. First to go is my Hamilton Khaki Fied Mechanical. I bought this @ 2017 and seldomly used it. It's not my taste. I put it up for sale in my trusty Australian Watch Buy Swap Sell group. Surprisingly, there's a lot of interest in the watch. I'll be meeting a buyer tomorrow to close the sale. All the effort I did was to take some well curated pictures of the watch and posted it up online to turn it into cash. Cool.

  • This morning, I also did one thing that's out of the ordinary. I read some typescript code. I stumbled upon a simple tutorial from Microsoft. It's a two part front-end programming tutorial. I've read it and there were a few typos here and there that needs correction. I was planning to submit a PR to fix the issues but so

Mathematics

  • Why is it important? This was a question raised to me by my kids last night. I said: "Because later on you'll have kids of your own and you have to teach them maths." That's the best answer I could come up with. Apart from that, you use it everyday really.

  • That's why I'm reading up on maths everyday. I'm going back to the basics. I found a nice book in the library that I come back to everyday. A while ago I did some long division exercises, operations heirarchy, and some Gauss addition problem

  • Tonight we'll be doing a new set of times table. First daughter did 8 times table, second one did four times table. It's really interesting when you see the aha moment in kids eyes.

Recap

  • The morning was crazy. I woke up early just to try it out -- because I saw a short Instagram video about some crazy military guy that teaches morning routines. He said just wake the fuck up when your alarm goes off in the morning. No snoozing. Just wake up. Decide to wake up at that moment. Attack the day and don't let it gang up on you. You take action -- do not react. We headed off to the train station 5 minutes earlier than the usual but there was a man that was hit by a train just minutes before we got to the station. Trains were cancelled and it was a mess. It all turned out good for us. We drove and got stuck in traffic. I decided to drive all the way to the suburb just outside the city and it was all good.

  • I was also excited to report for work anticipating lunch. There's a scheduled potluck. I volunteered to bring the dumplings. I found some leche flan, two of them, and brought it too. An hour before lunch I pre-ordered the dumplings. Great! All sorted. When I checked the event it was not

Long weekend

  • I've raised two PRs at work last Friday -- which is quite productive for a Friday. Ended the day with beers with colleagues. I can't believe one beer would get me so sleepy after a day's work.

  • I've got nothing planned over the long weekend which is dangerous because I might not enjoy the rest of it as I want it to be. I'm toying with the idea of joining the gym once again. It coincides with the company's theme as well -- be well. I could still squeeze in a quick run this morning. I want to get rid of my extra phlegm.

  • I borrowed three books. One about piano, one about money, one about mathematics. It's happening again. I am over booking myself and setting up myself for failure. If I would pick one -- I could concentrate on it. Return two and finish one.

  • Here's a rant -- so when I use my computer I always have it plugged to keep it charged. When my wife uses the computer she feeds off of the fully charged battery and never plugs it in for the next user which is me. Things you have to

sandwich

Italian hero

Whenever I go to the kitchen to make something I always end up making some sort of sandwich. This time it's the Italian hero sandwich. First time I made this sandwich and I love it. It's dead simple. Probably the trick here is to buy the right ingredients. I went straight to the Italian deli (a deli that's run by Italians) and pointed to the exact ingredients.

I ate two whole sandwiches. My wife and MIA (mother-in-law) ate half each. There's something special in my own sandwich because I know what flavours I want in my sandwich and what kind of bread I want. This made my dinner complete.

How the day went down

2nd day of Labour day

Today started slow. I can't remember what I had for breakfast. I just woke up not feeling 100%.I was hesitant to go to the city and attend church. But I did it anyway, then we ate at GJ's grill -- kids' favourite restaurant in the city. So, kids were happy and I felt better when everything was over.

When we got home, my kids went to the neighbour's house to see some fish in the aquarium. I get to help out as well by moving aquariums around as well. It was not the usual Sunday but everything's all good.

Tomorrow's the last day of the long weekend. As usual, being crammers as we are -- we're cramming for an adventure in the last minute. We plan to go to Mornington Peninsula tomorrow and experience the hot springs there. I hope we have the time and energy to make it happen.
