Async testing with jest fake timers and promises
PLEASE CHECK THIS REPO WITH THE EXAMPLES THAT YOU CAN RUN:
https://github.com/apieceofbart/async-testing-with-jest-fake-timers-and-promises
// Let's say you have a function that does some async operation inside setTimeout (think of polling for data)
function runInterval(callback, interval = 1000) {
setInterval(async () => {
const results = await Promise.resolve(42) // this might fetch some data from server
callback(results)
}, interval)

THIS WAS ORIGINALLY POSTED ON MY TUMBLR ON FEB 25, 2011. I forgot I had a Tumblr account. I recently logged in (in light of the acquisition by Automattic), found some old posts, and I'm republishing them exactly as they were with zero modifications.

CloudFormation: The Big Picture

Amazon announced CloudFormation to the public yesterday, and while the general opinion I could glean from various sources shows that people are excited about this new technology, many are still unsure what it is and how it fits into their current cloud workflow. I feel as though I have a firm grasp on CloudFormation and will attempt to answer some questions here.

Note: I'm definitely not a representative of Amazon in any way, and anything here is simply my educated opinion on the matter.

Serverless Lifecycle Cheat Sheet

Serverless plugin author's cheat sheet

This cheat sheet provides a detailed overview of the exposed lifecycle events and available commands (and entrypoints) of the Serverless framework, that can be hooked by plugins (internal and external ones). The document is structured by the commands invoked by the user.

Lifecycle events are shown as the globally available outer events (all providers) and sub lifecycle events that are provider specific in the called order. Currently only the AWS provider is shown. If you have information about the other provider,

hn job query search
// Usage:
// Copy and paste all of this into a debug console window of the "Who is Hiring?" comment thread
// then use as follows:
//
// query(term | [term, term, ...], term | [term, term, ...], ...)
//
// When arguments are in an array then that means an "or" and when they are seperate that means "and"
//
// Term is of the format:
// ((-)text/RegExp) ( '-' means negation )

SSL Certificate Commands

These commands are needed every time you want to generate a new certificate signing request to give to an authority in order for them to generate and sign a certificate for you.

https://letsencrypt.org/ solves a lot of the pain involved with SSL certs, but sometimes you still need to go the "old school" route. I constantly forget how this stuff works, so I collected the most important commands (and what they do) here for easy copy & paste.

Rich Hickey on becoming a better developer

Rich Hickey • 3 years ago

Sorry, I have to disagree with the entire premise here.

A wide variety of experiences might lead to well-roundedness, but not to greatness, nor even goodness. By constantly switching from one thing to another you are always reaching above your comfort zone, yes, but doing so by resetting your skill and knowledge level to zero.

Mastery comes from a combination of at least several of the following:
