npm's proposal for supporting ES modules in node

ESM modules in node: npm edition

The proposal you’re about to read is not just a proposal. We have a working implementation of almost everything we discussed here. We encourage you to checkout and build our branch: our fork, with the relevant branch selected. Building and using the implementation will give you a better understanding of what using it as a developer is like.

Our implementation ended up differing from the proposal on some minor points. As our last action item before making a PR, we’re writing documentation on what we did. While I loathe pointing to tests in lieu of documentation, they will be helpful until we complete writing docs: the unit tests.

This repo also contains a bundled version of npm that has a new command, asset. You can read the documentation for and goals of that comma

Feedback from migrating a material-ui app to 1.0

I have migrated about 11 kloc from material-ui 0.X to material ui 1.0 (a moderate size project). It has taken me more than 20 hours, and it was not a pleasant experience. cf https://github.com/marmelab/admin-on-rest/pull/1167

No Migration Path

I understand that you took the opportunity of a major BC break to rethink the API completely. But coming from 0.X, the changes often aren't consistent. Each component has changed in a different way, and for a given component, there is no way to guess the 1.0 API based on the 0.x API. Why did <ToolbarGroup> disappear? Why do I need to decompose a ListItem into so many sub components now? Why was Toggle renamed to Switch?

Upload tracks to Strava from the Command Line

Upload GPS Tracks to Strava from your Command Line

This short tutorial describes how to upload GPS tracks to Strava using your command line interface / shell. It requires no special tools or any 3rd party code.

1. Generate an API Key

Run the following steps with your user logged in to Strava in your browser!

Strava uses OAuth to authenticate against 3rd party applications. In order to authenticate to your Strava account from your command line, you first have to generate an API key. Therefore go to this page https://strava.github.io/api/v3/oauth/ and create a new API. The settings are as follows:

Export TOTP tokens from Authy

Exporting your 2FA tokens from Authy to transfer them into another 2FA application

IMPORTANT - Update regarding deprecation of Authy desktop apps

Past August 2024, Authy stopped supported the desktop version of their apps:
See Authy is shutting down its desktop app | The 2FA app Authy will only be available on Android and iOS starting in August for details.

And indeed, after a while, Authy changed something in their backend which now prevents the old desktop app from logging in. If you are already logged in, then you are in luck, and you can follow the instructions below to export your tokens.

If you are not logged in anymore, but can find a backup of the necessary files, then restore those files, and re-install Authy 2.2.3 following the instructions below, and it should work as expected.

ReactiveConf 2016 Lighting talk proposal: React (Native) and the cross platform pipe dream

This is a lighting talk proposal for ReactiveConf 2016: https://reactiveconf.com/

React (Native) and the cross platform pipe dream

Have one codebase, target all the platforms. While we are on the topic on re-using the same codebase, maybe we could even switch out the renderer with what is the fatest for the situation. Use DOM, Canvas or OpenGL whenever needed. This lighting talk will give impulses on how to approach this mantra and what advantages and disadvantages we might run into in the process.

(Content-wise this lighting talk is a shorter version of https://github.com/frostney/talks/blob/master/proposals.md#can-we-stop-using-lowercased-components-now.)
