DAY 1

Chapters 1 & 2

  1. On a website, what is the purpose of HTML code? To create the structure and layout of the webpage.
  2. What is the difference between an element and a tag? An element comprises the opening tag and the closing tag and any content that lies between them.
  3. Why do we use attributes in HTML elements? Attributes provide additional information about the contents of an element.
  4. Describe the purpose of the head, title, and body HTML elements. They're use is to reflect a hierarchy of information.

Empathy

Empathy has helped me tremendously in my own life, as a figure skating coach and choreographer. It was very important that I become an active listener AND an active watcher in order to better understand my students' styles of learning. That skill crosses over into software development in so far as truly understanding the needs of my clients from their own perspectives, not just my own. Empathic thought and expression is also an important skill to implement in team building and teamwork. I also find that group empathy can be exercised into corrolating to community building. I recall having a very heated and intense discussion with a coworker about his attitude in the workplace, and subsequently the impact that his attitude has on our clients, our coworkers, and ultimately the business.

He later explained to me that it was the 1-year anniversary of the day that he'd lost his daughter in a car accident. I was able to immediately empathize with what he was experiencing inside, allowed him to exp

Professional/Career Development

  1. Of the 29 behaviors that make up an unstoppable programer, there were 4 behaviors that really resonated with me in the list. They are "Say 'I Don’t Know,'" "Identify and resolve bigger issues," "Learn under pressure," and "Act as a leader, not a boss." The first, because I don't know very much at all, and I already feel more at ease with being affirmed in the belief that everything is going to be ok. The second, because taking on issues that happen to be outside of your own scope or perspective grants you a greater view of the overall picture. I have found broader perspectives to have more relevant and empathic points of view. The third, because I've already challenged myself to learn Python in my freetime, after class, which will allow me to actively taking the skills I'm learning in class and directly implement them into something in my own life without very much down time. Lastly, my experience with coaching my kids has showed me that human beings will hear what you

Outreach & Networking Plan for Module 3

Outreach:

Identify a contact you will reach out to by the end of Module 3. This could be a mentor, alum, anyone from your current network, or a completely cold contact. Describe:

Why you want to connect with this person and what you hope to talk about?

I am connecting on the basis of common interests or experiences in a hope to obtain insight and information about varying aspects of the software dev industry.

When you will contact them by and how you plan to meet?

I've been contacting multiple people since Mod 1 and have continued to reach out to new resources into Mod 2. I will continue into Mod 3.

AGILE PRACTICES AND LEADERSHIP

Reflections:

I think that intention in process is very important. I like to think that I’m stoic and agile in nature, but intention is that extra piece. Not just being methodical by nature, but rather, being methodical intentionally.

“If you do things shittly, you tend to get shit out. S, h, I, t, t, l, y, it’s an adverb.” - Jeff Casimer

Only about 10% of code is actually worth while because of the shit processes of developers who’ve aggregated lots of knowledge over the years. Our perspective, our processes, what truly informs us; that will be the key that sets us apart in the workplace, not the accumulated knowledge. Like a violinist, there is always time to do code right the first time. There is no point in doing it crazily in practice. If you practice good/bad processes, then you will reproduce good/bad product. If you’ve been working on a project for 3 month, it’s not agile. If your site does not solicit user feedback, it is not agile. Agile should be acces

Feedback Conversation Reflection Guidelines

Positions that I have are that we were very productive given the time constraints that my partner had as a result of her outside life. I was proud of the effort put forth, and was intentional about reminding my partner consistently of their contributions to the project. I have but one coaching element, which was the negative outlook on our progress and possible finished product. There was negative self-talk on their part, which I tried to sway into the positive, but essentially, even the negative talk could sway my positive outlook at times, which proves problematic if I happen to not be in the best of sorts myself on any given day. Being mindful of this would serve anyone well when working in a group/pair environment, so I think that it would be quite positive to bring this up in feedback.

* Date of feedback conversation:

Thursday morning after the project is turned in, we should meet for coffee or breakfast, before iron fe.

Strengths in Storytelling

Who are you?

Inner City kid with the odds stacked against me. First in the family to go to College. Taught myself how to type. Taught myself how to figure skate. After only 3 years of skating, got paid to travel the world skating professionally.

Why are you here?

My life has allowed me to prove to myself that I can do ANYTHING that I put my mind to, and that the positives that come from that hard work may not be visible until they are directly upon you.

What’s next?

After attaining multiple injuries, and finally seeking therapy and medical assistance to heal those injuries at thirty, I began to imagine myself applying my love of languages and my current skillset to the current job market. Software Design was the next step, and a necessary insertion of a person with my identities and perspectives into the STEM workforce fields. Applying the skills of various styles of learning to provide access to learning, and access to resources to the industry of software devel
